there is a way for proxy users

Post by crack22 » 2003-12-09 21:05

first of all: hi@all ! ;)

i'm using dc++ for a while now but then i moved to another city (finally left fuckin home  )

new city ment new ISP

good thing was: 10mbit for free (college)
problem was: proxy plus firewall (all ports filterd exept 21,80,8080, 1080)

i said good bye to counterstike and battle net (i'm too old for this stuff anyway ;) ) and edonkey and dc++

but then i started looking for solutions...

i used http tunnel, nice but only tunnels tcp (no game, no leech)
and finally ended up on a site http://www.socks.permeo.com/..

i never heared of "socks" but worked me into the stuff and found out that u can forward/tunnel EVERY application trough port 1080 if socks5 protocol is on the proxy..

so i tried it and and tata... it worked fine..

i can use dc++ and a few games (UnrealTournament, global ops, ironstorm) and irc and ftp

you have to ensure that your proxy server has socks5 or socks4 protocol running. give it a try! it works fine

Yeah, SocksCap works decently. DC++ itself has a SOCKS5 mode as well...

i'm trying sockscap but really dunno what to do. i just configured it like in your pic and set dc++ to active mode after running sockscap. it didn't seem to work. do i need the ip add of the socks server or what?

pls describe the problem:
do you see hublist?
is there a sockscap error (search your sockscap logfile for errors)?
ect.

maybe it helps doing one of those:
1. use passive mode...

2. does your proxy support usename and password?
if not uncheck the box in sockscap "username/password"

3. did you set the right proxy ip/port?

4. does your proxy support socks5/socks4 at all?

5. does any other application work with sockscap (icq, irc...?)

Naw, SOCKS5 mode is basically passive through a proxy.

The HTTP proxy is only for the hublist though.
