File sizes? [Bit of a n00b question]

I'm rather new at this whole file sharing thing, so I was wondering: Is there some rule, unwritten or otherwise, about the file sizes of music? When I rip a CD to the highest quality I get a size/length ratio of about 2,3 megs per minute of song and that seems a bit much to me. It's obviously useful for getting a bigger share, but can it be seen as a deliberate attempt at padding your share and can it get you banned, etc? And if so, should I fiddle around with bitrates, channels and frequency as well as the quality setting?

Most hubs only get angry when you share .wav, .vob, installed programs, and temporary download files. Audio files with lossless compression are usually perfectly fine, and they are much bigger than any mp3. In the end, it's your call; just make sure they're at least 128kbps and nicely tagged. You can get extra brownie points with me if you use Ogg Vorbis.

I've personally never heard of a rule that would ban 320kbit .mp3 files from being shared... Sometimes when you like the song, you want to get it in good quality...

Note: I'm talking about songs by artists like e.g. The Knob who allow you to distribute their songs for free (their songs aren't copyrighted)...
