converting incomplete files to AVI

Post by exuma » 2004-10-19 17:29

The problem I am having with the new DCTMP files is the following:
I am collecting blooper scnenes from movies and most of the time I used to download movies only partially (till I had the scene) and then I would cut the file with divxfix. Now I have to download the entire thing...

Is there any way to convert incomplete files to functioning avis??

You mean beyond simply renaming the file? ...

Theoretically possible yes. Since Divfix rewrites the key-index at the end of the file you'll have to cut that out first. Find a proram called CUTOFF.EXE (single file, very small) and use that to cut away a few MB at the end. Then rename the file to whatever you want. Find the complete file with DC, and use the DOWNLOAD TO command to resume to your incomplete file...should work. If you get rollback errors, try cutting some more...if still no go, then I guess it can't be done.

Please don't share those files. At least use VirtualDub to cut out the segments you want.
