avi and dolby 5.1

Does anybody know how to tell if an avi has dolby 5.1 sound encoding and if there any settings to make it play on my PC in 5.1 :?:

1) Use GSpot to ID the codecs used
2) Use AC3 Filter to decode the Dolby.
