Hi!
I'm hoping that I'm posting this to the right forum, because I could really need som help.

Has recently started using DC and for the first time I have downloaded a film in avi format or mpg, I'm 100% new at this so what do I do now?

Is it possible to turn this movie into DVD an burn it on a CD so it can be playd on a DVD? Or can I only watch it on my computer......?

Anyway it seems like I need a codec (I can only hear the sound when I play it on the computer), but what is a codec and where do I get the right one? The computer tells med when I play the movie that I need a DIV3 (?) but where do I get one? I tryed to search DC for DIV3 but I can't find a codec named exactly DIV3, most codes seems to be named DIVX so I don't know witch one to download

And WHEN and IF I get the right codec (can I get it over DC?) - what do I do then, is the program difficult to use?

I'm sorry If my questions are "stupid" but I wanna learn so I can download more movies in the future!!!

Avi or Divx can only play on your computer as they stand, you can however convert them using a program such as TMPGEnc Plus to either
Vcd or SVcd, burn them to cdr and play them on a standalone dvd player, you can also convert them to dvd format but all conversions will reduce the original quality.

For codecs get Fddshow it is simple to install.

what is a codec and where do I get the right one?

codec = compressor/decompressor
If it helps: it's a plugin that will help you open certain types of files in your media player.

To find the right one, use a nice tool such as GSpot which will at least tell you the FourCC code on a given AVI file (which you have below).


DIV3 is likely DivX 3.11. I think the Codec FAQ at Doom9.org might get you on your feet.
