Well, access.xml for one doesn't change very often, so you certainly shouldn't replace that one...(keep a backup, try running unchanged, stop the hub and see if it looks the same)...thanks to xml, dch++ always loads as much information as possible from the old settings files...
As to dchpp.xml, check the logs to see if it complains about settings missing, then you can search the new version of it for the setting and description...
