i think that you should be able to choose "beween" as an option in the scearchbar. right now, "at most" and "at least" and "normal" exist, and it sholdn't be TO hard to combine the fist two them into "between".
you don't need to create a new place to type the second number in, just a "-" between the max and min value.
ex. between 170-200 Mb

Please don't use that phrase.

The user interface is easy to change and is therefore not the limiting factor. There are protocol limitations which means that there is not a simple/easy/non-hack-ish way of doing this.
The ins and outs of the situation have been discussed extensively in a previous thread. I suggest you search for it.

not being actively involved with ADC i wouldn't know if this has even entered a stage were they are coding it, is this likely to happen in the next month, 6 months, year?

Er, but it is, grasshopper. It's a change in how searches work, and we don't have enough fields anyhow. If we redefine some of them, you have to think about how older versions of DC++ will parse them. You have to worry about other clients as well. And you also have to worry about sanity-checking on the part of hubs - if any validate the $Search command.
The others have it right to mention ADC, which is more extensible and modern, and may make it possible to implement your request.
