Different share for different hubs?

Post by sabbacus » 2003-07-16 11:32

Any plans for implementing that?

No, I'm not "cheap" and do want to share my resources.

The thing is that my ISP (a university in Sweden) has introduced a upload limit on 4GB/week for external traffic. If people upload more than that amount their bandwidth gets reduced to 10kB/s for two weeks ( have a T3 connection now).

On the campus we have an internal hub and there you can upload/download as much as you want, but on the external hubs you just cant let all people download as much as I and they want to due to the upload limit that kicks in when you are to "generous".

So... A solution for this would be to have a big share on the "campus hub" and a low share (or just share stuff that no one wants anyway) on the external hubs and it is this feature i now suggest.
The obvious solution "run NMDC on one of the hubs" isnt that good since some hubs have started to block NMDC due to the "new and mproved features".

Anyway, what do you blokes think about this?

Could the feature be abused? Most probably...

you could use BCDC++ or DC++k (see sarf's thread in the "Other" forum).
they will run simultaneously with regular DC++.

I think it's bad faith to share files nobody wants. A preferable solution is to limit your upload speed to external hubs. BCDC or DC++k won't let you do this while letting you download from full speed on a local hub.
