Hi everyone!

This is my "problem":
My little brother only has modem access to the Internet = slow. I on the other hand has 10 mbit/s access. I would like my little brother to be able to access my DC++ client through modem. So that he can log in to my computer, access hubs and download files to my computer. Then i would burn it for him onto a CD image and give it to him.

Is this at all possible? Is it hard to implement? I have been programming in C and C++ for a while but i know nothing about the Windows API or any existing DC++ API. So it would be hard for me to create this feature.

Any comments on this? It would be great for some people, but perhaps it is out of the scope / goal with DC++? If so, is there any way to script DC++? And on the last hand, is there any other way to solve my problem? (if so, please mail me as it must be out of scope for this forum)

Last but not least, DC++ is the best!!

i assume your brother puter is not near your's
there are better way to do it if they are inside around 1000 feets.

basic instruction :

install a hub software on your puter and connect to it with dc++ tru localhost (127.0.0.1)
give your brother your internet ip so he connect to your hub also and happy transfer.

I donÃ‚Â´t think that is what i want to do. I want my brother to be able to control my DC++ client and connect to DC hubs with it using my computer wich he controls through heÃ‚Â´s modem connection. So that no file transfers will be done over the MY <-> BROTHER connection just betweeen MY <-> ANYHUB connection.

So that i may burn what he downloads into a cd-rw and give him when i meet him. My brother lives in another city 60 kilometers from here.

There are certainly tools for remote control, such as VNC which allows you to graphically control another machine. But you will come up against a limitation of Windows - the fact that it is not a truly multiuser system. It is a single user system with some mutli user capabilities bolted on.

You cannot therefore have two people running a GUI on the same machine at the same time. If you were using some form of Unix variant though, this wouldn't be an issue.

If you go down the VNC route, you would have to make arrangements about who would use the machine at what time.

Would it not be easier in the long run for your brother to just give you a list of things that he would like?

Well to run an application as a service isntÃ‚Â´t a problem. Nor would it be a problem for me to have the computer running. I am not looking for a tool such as VNC, PCAnywhere of similar. I am just looking for a way to script/control DC++ from another program/script.

DC++ does not have that kind of functionality at the moment and as far as I know, there are noo plans to introduce it.

You may want to look at something like DCTC instead.

Thanks i will look into it! With a scriptable DC client people can do all sorts of fun stuff. (but i understand that it might not be the goal of DC++)

yes, but if so the scripting API could exclude messages as they would be of little use when scripting the client anyway. (but i guess flood type of progs still exist anyway?)

Download to another computer using DC++? Not on the same Lan?

It would be so sweet! I would love to download nukes and trojans onto Sam's computer!

If you want a multi user remote control enviroment install windows 2000, NT4, or 2003 server(maybe xp pro?) create a user on the machine for your brother and he will be able to login to his own windows enviroment, allowing you both to use the machine at the same time. Though, on a 56k modem, i'm not sure remote admin'ing a machine will be fun.
