Slots in multiple hubs

Post by [uu.nl]Konijntjepluis » 2003-12-04 14:23

A lot of people who have fast connections (like the ones in fasthub.mine.nu) complain about the availability of slots with other fast users. This mostly 'cause slow users from slower hubs take all these slots for hours, if not days.

A new feature could resolve a part of this problem:
Make it possible to reserve a certain number of slots for a specific hub. Say I have 12 slots available for 3 hubs. One is a really fast one, with only 10+Mbit users. The other two are infested with slow (a)dsl users. With this new feature I could reserve 8 slots for the fast users, and 4 for the slower ones (making sure to meet the hub minimums of course). That way the faster hubs stay fast.

Awaiting the criticts:

Then maybe people with fast connections should only go into hubs, whereby all the users have fast connections, trouble is they don't mind connecting to slower users when it suits them, depending on whom shares what.

DC++ is about sharing regardless of your connection speed.

I read your other post, drink your own medicine.

Be a sport and let all people down from ye,
and just feel proud that you are a great sharer, ok?
Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Slots per hub requires the same ability to differentiate users from different hubs as shares per hub. Please take a look at some of those posts, this is definitely non-trivial with the current protocol.
