Downloading from the middle of a file

Post by user09 » 2003-12-18 14:47

So what about a feature that would let you deside, from where (middle, end start...) you would like to start downloading the file.

I mean, those multi source -thingies load from many points of a file, right? So if you had a movie\iso\bin etc. file corrupted from a certain part, you could just download the small portion of the file again.

Then there should ofcourse also be some program showing, in which part of the .bin etc., the desired file is located.

So you want an option added in DC++ to fix the files you downloaded with kazaa/emule?

Well not quite what I had in mind. I want a feature that would let to download that single file from the iso-file, that has become broken in the download process. Or if it encourters error the download doesn't start from start, it just skips it and downloads the broken part from someone else.

the new safe/compressed transfers feature checks the crc for each block as dc++ downloads it, therefore if the feature is working correctly the download should only be corrupt if the original file was (well I guess it is possible for both the data and the crc to corrupt and magically look correct but isn't likely) if it is corrupt then my understanding is that dc++ redownloads this block. Although I have heard of a few people having problems with this feature it seems to work well for most.
