Shareing over LAN on win98

Post by yoden- » 2004-02-29 16:23

i think i posted before about not being able to share files through my network places/network neighborhood

in winxp, it does work now(yay!), but you can no longer select remote computers at all under 98 (they don't display)

before, you could select folders from them, but nothing would happen.

this would be a cool feature (for me at least) because there are usually kids playing games on the computer with the big hard drive and winxp :o however, if i could share those files remotely through this computer (too slow for xp or big hard drive), i could still share my whole file store and be able to download 8)

If you cannot browse, you may not have the proper services installed in your Network Control panel. Off the top of my head, I believe there were "Client for Microsoft Network" and "Microsoft File and Printer Sharing" under the Client and Services sections, respectively.

If what I've said doesn't help, take a look on google, I'm sure someone's written a more complete guide to helping you install the proper services.

Microsoft's Knowledge Base might help figuring out browse issues if you do have the proper things installed, but the Network Neighborhood is still blank.
