Making a bot in VB.NET

Post by Todi » 2003-11-15 21:16

This doesn't exactly have anything to do with DC++, but it's programmer's help related anyway ;)

I'm trying to make a simple bot that can connect to a DC hub and do simple operations, like respond to a PM.. and i'm doing it in VB.NET.. yes yes i should be doing it in C# or similar, VB sucks etc etc, but this is what i have for the moment, so bare with me please =) The problem is, i havn't worked with .NET much earlier, so i'm at a loss where to start exactly.. It would be very helpful if someone could offer a little advice / tutorial / code to help me along.. Thanks :D

Hmm, well since I don't want to be the 5th visitor to read your post and not respond... I have no clue either. Well, at least in how to program in VB.NET. SF.NET might have a project that you could borrow code from. Otherwise, you'll just need to look at the protocol docs - http://wza.digitalbrains.com/DC/doc/Introduction.html - and start building a bot from there... :?:

Thanks for the response and the url GargoyleMT ;)

I've been searching like crazy everywhere, but i can't find anything exactly like what i want.. I did find some tutorials and stuff concerning TCP thou, so i guess i'll just start there...

Edit: After some.. well.. insane searching (tough subject to find good help on it seems) I finally found this excellent code example... straight from microsoft... it helped a lot =) Just a little tip if anyone else wants to do something similar..
