ansii pics

How does a fella convert images: jpeg,gif,bmp..into those wonderful ansii character graphics to use in scripts?

Is there a proggy out there to convert them, ive tried characterizer but it makes a real mess in the mains and thats about it

help would be great

ANSI is a standards group
ASCII is text

Once you know the difference, google should be able to help you find what you want.

..well i was searching in google and some defferent engiens for ASCII for week now....i find 5 progs for creating ASCII and converting to ASCII, but all of them in DC++ displays with lot's of mess!

So Please if you know the answer, don't send us to the google ....just HELP!

ascii art is supposed to be displayed using a monospaced (fixed width) font.

dc++ (and all other clients) use a variable width font, so creating ascii art is not that simple.

..so u saying that pics maded by ascii programs we should fixed manualy in notepad of dc++ client?

The users local font is customizable, so there is no telling how a text-picture will show up on their side. Even if they haven't changed their font, the default one isn't monospaced, so you see the problem.

in the good old BBS days , ansi was used alot.
ansi back then was basicaly ascii-in-color.

but there is a trick you can use to display ascii on an variable-width screen.

Find the similarly-spaced characters , and make your ascii out of those.
It might not work with every font , since different font might have different spacings.

dots and colons have the same width . (well . should have , probably...)

True, there were programs for converting GIFs and JPEGs to ANSI escape sequences. I'd be surprised if there aren't any around still.
