just got back to school and DC ++ works for everyone but me

I have a MAC running on MAC OS X 10.2
For some reason Direct Connect says im connected but keeps kicking me out of the hubs. Last year i was sharing files fine but now that im back their are all these problems. When i try to connect to my universities hub (Northeastern University) "my nickname is already taken up" how can i change that and how can i fix my problem. Any help would be great thanks for your help.

What client are you using?

Did you try changing your nickname (duh)?
