File list automatic downloads

Post by Badpojk » 2005-11-04 01:56

I have tried to understand why my DC++ automatic download other user’s file lists.
I have a slow connection and prefer downloading selected files instead of file list.

Are they downloaded while my dc++ is waiting for free slots?

Is there any setting where this can be deactivated? I prefer manually download file list instead.

Is there any benefit of having downloaded file lists when searching for alternatives?

Please enlighten me :)

Yes: "Automatically Match Queue for Auto Search Hits"

Of course, or it wouldn't have been implemented. Without matching, you have to do a search for each file in your queue that the user is a source for. With matching, you do one search, and DC++ downloads their list and adds them as alternate sources for all applicable files. It saves hub bandwidth, which lets the hub support more users.

Ok, thanks for a quick answers.

So if I understand you masters correctly I should still have this flag marked.

I will end up losing some time and bandwidth for all file lists but in the long term I will actually gain time by have more alternative sources.

They are not reducing my number of download slots? I hope they leave room for my files. It wouldn’t make sense if they restrict me download. I are searching mostly for language courses and ends up with having 3-4 of 10 slots only downloading file list. This made me wonder….

No. If the cons of the feature (excess bandwidth usage) outweigh the pros (potentially faster addition of sources) then disable it.

I dunno. He only added the "language courses" thing at the end. And since I had just answered him, I didn't feel like disabling his account.

I wish people would be smart.
