Has anyone ever considered some sort of integration with IMDB? There's already code out there to do this. Also, perhaps integration with some site that provides covers.
Possible Features:
A button on the toolbar that will pop-up a search dialog... enter part of title... get results... pick the right result... immediately get the poster pic, proper title, actors, release data, plot, etc...
Select an item in the regular search dialog and use the name of the file to search IMDB.
Anyone thought of implementing this? I wouldn't mind helping out programming some of this...
For an idea of the type of integration I'm talking about, check out http://www.powermovielist.com/. It's a completely different program, but it integrates with IMDB pretty well...[/url]

Yes, DC++ is a file sharing program and there are three primary types of "files" that are shared. Movies, Music, and Software. You can implement the idea of looking up more detailed info on a file by using an external database with all three types.
As for this feature being unnecessary bloat, well... you can describe any feature as bloat. You can say that even the GUI is bloat since it isn't necessary... This obviously wouldn't be an essential feature. Also, if you don't need it then you can ignore it.
The key here is that almost all of the coding is already done. You just implement it as part of the client.
heard:
Aren't scripts server-side? What do you do if the hub you use doesn't have it? Also you can't get posters with the script...

I'm not saying that this is a great idea or anything. I'm just interested in the concept of adding depth to the client. Seeing XXXXX.avi or XXXXX.zip or XXXXXX.mp3 isn't exactly all that informative. Obtaining objective detailed information from a database on the media might be...

Hmm? Almost all of the coding is already done? Can you provide the names and some URLs for the software that you think the code would be best lifted from? PowerMovie List doesn't quite cut it, since the code needs to be C++ (or C).
Eventually, there will be Bitzi integration, if I implement my version of file hashing.

I don't think anything like that exists in C/C++/C# ... There might be something in Java, but I doubt it.
What I meant by my "almost all of the coding is already done" is not that you can copy and paste. It's that the interaction with the database server has already been worked out by other people. All you have to do is create a dialog in the client and use the existing code in PHP as a template. PHP is quite similar to C++ anyway so you might be able to do a copy and paste job with minor modifications.
I wouldn't mind doing the coding, so long as I know that it won't all go to waste... Anyhow, like I said, this is just idea...
Bitzi sounds really interesting. Is there timetable set for implementation?

Timetable? Naw, not really. How's "before not too long"? It's my free time, and I'm still thinking over what type of structure the hashes need to go into, and what other changes will be necessary. I'll also need to add at least a rudimentary ShareManager window so I can get an idea of what my code is doing, realtime. Plus, there's always the procrastination factor. Notice how much easier it is to sort your mp3s than it is to tackle some problems?
Code never goes to waste in DC++. Just make a patch and send it to Arne, and he'll at least consider it. If he's not interested, there are a couple forks you can peddle the feature to.
Interesting [re]definition of "most of the coding is already done", by the way
I'd say, go for it. I fall into the Music category of DC++ users, so it won't be of much use to me, but if it handles anime, I'll be willing to test it out!
