AVI/MPEG -> JPG Thumbnail Preview Creation

I'm sorry if this has been proposed before, I found some similar topics but not quite the same.

How about adding a "thumbnail preview", where it captures a thumbnail maybe every 5 minutes from a selected avi/mpeg, creating one JPG image which is then displayed in DC++.

It has big potentials, as people doesn't have to download a full movie just to find out it wasn't quite what they expected, wasting bandwidth.

The same feature could also be used for a full folder of video files, but with less thumbnails/file. (ie. at 10%, 50%, 90%), creating a single JPG preview image.

It's true, it might help doing that, but all current features in DC++ can already be used for that. With same reasoning, it would be similar as saying "let's remove the file transfer part of DC++ over 100kb to avoid helping people break the copyright law"

The proposal is not to help people break copyright laws, but to help reduce bandwidth usage which would be a benefit for all.

Don't be silly. There aren't many digital movies out there that people can legitimately transfer. Having a preview function for video files would be for individuals transferring illicit video content. In contrast, file lists and file transfers are content agnostic.
