That's right. Either lower (56k, or 128k, with isdn), 256k for just about everyone else.
A few cable companies offer 400k upload, but that's normally on the 10mbit download packages.
And that's the highest it goes.
The reason why . . . . BT are robbing bastards, who inherited an existing network for free about 20 years ago, and don't do any upgrading. So just about everyone still on the Copper phone lines.
Like i said, a few cable companies offer a bit faster, but it's still pathetic.

Hi , Im still finding it really frustrating as my downloads/uploads just sit at aound 5Kib/s (when a file is started its speed is around 400Kib/s then quickly falls too 10KiB/s and stays steady at that speed ), which takes ages for a single song to complete , a film would take an age
I was checking my speeds , Im on Bt Yahoo Boadband (UK ISP) Upstream is reading as 288kbps while the Downstream is at 2272kbps ....
I have recieved an email from BT that says they are upgrading thier customers to 'upto' 8MB (only for those who lines are strong enough to handle the high speeds) I have checked thier site and my line can only hand 5.5MB , will this upgrade quicken my Uploads/Downloads ??
Many Thanks
