Some questions... Multiple servers for 1 hub? etc

I've made a new hub and I have a few questions.

First, is it possible to have a single hub served from more than one computer at once, such that if one serving PC went down, the hub would still stay up as it is served from another PC as well?

If this *is* possible, how would this be done? If it isn't possible, is there a way to designate a computer as a second so if one computer went down, the second computer would or could start serving the hub?

Second, does the connection of the computer doing the serving affect the upload/download speeds for everyone in the hub? For example, if my hub was served from a PC on a T1 connection, would everyone's DL's be faster than if it were served from a PC on a DSL connection?

If the connection speed *does* effect the speed of the Hub and it is possible for more than one computer to serve a hub, which connection speed does it go by? If i was serving from DSL and my friend was simultaneousy serving from a T1, would the hub go by my DSL speed or my friends T1 speed?

And third, a new hub's addition to public hub lists is automatic right? I have auto register checked, but where it says "Register Hub with:" and then vandel405 it is grey and I can't edit this. it's been 48 hours and I can't find my hub on the public lists. I would like to get my hub on as many public hub lists as I can. What can I do to facillitate and/or achieve this?

Not at this time, but if I remember well, the very promising hub software from Ryalth (RDCHub) is planned to be a "distributed" task at some point. Bit like Seti@Home =)
It is also one of the 2 alternate hub softwares that support VBS scripting, so it's all the more interesting =)

Yes, it is, but you'll need to have the failsafe work with your DNS records, not with your hub software.
(for example if computer1 serving the hub with myhub.no-ip.com falls, the computer2 with a hub already running can start serving the myhub.no-ip.com domain. You can't do it directly from the hub software.)

Note however that users will be droped from computer1. The client software automatically attempts to reconnect when this happens, and they'll end up on computer2. So the hub won't litteraly "stay up", but it will have a minimal downtime.

No. That's the whole idea of "peer-to-peer". The downloads/uploads go from one peer to the other, and don't transit by the hub. The hub only serves as a "directory" of users, as far as file transfers are connected.

However, the hub has some bandwidth needs (a bit of downstream, a lot of upstream), so if you are running downloads/uploads (well, especially uploads) with your own client on the same connection as your hub, you might saturate the upstream and get your hub very laggy. It still won't affect the download/upload speed of users, but they might also want to chat or something, since the particularity of the DC network versus other peer-to-peer solutions is to be community-oriented

If you have auto-register checked, it happens automatically, yes. vandel405 refers to the default neo-modus list which other lists sync from. However, the neo list is refreshed every now and then, and only publishes a few hubs at a time. The hubs are selected 100% randomly each time; not in turn. So it's like the loto. You could be lucky and be included within the first hour, or be in the average and be included within the first 2 weeks, or be really unlucky and not be included for a whole month or two.

Once you are published on it for one "batch", the other hub lists will pick you from there and will send their pingers to your hub to check users, up/down status on a more regular basis =)

Most of the other lists offer the option to register directly with them, instead of the neo list, but since the neo list is what most of them seem to use to sync from, your best bet to be included on as many lists as possible is to stick with neo and play loto. You could however consider registering once with each of them, to be in the list, then switch back to neo. Their pingers will keep you there.
To register with other lists, just search the forums a bit with the "search" link up there; there's already many threads with details, links to modified hubs that allow to change the greyed out vandel405, etc etc =)
