How do i start a hub for a band?

Hi,
Sorry if this i the wrong place to post this, but i really want to know how to start a hub and where i can get information on it. I have talked to many people about this situations and that agreed of saying it's better for the convenience. I have been currently active and talking with this forum for the band and i got to say that this forum is probably the most active forum with downloads and it could be a lot easier, becuase many other people have to host a website just for one download to right click save as and i believe that this could be so much better and more easier. I'm doing this for the convenience and not for the "FREE" file trading software and such... Our downloads from this forum vary much from pictures of the band to guitar tablature documents, to live shows, to live videos, and other recordings not from the album. If i started this hub, i would stricty have a rule to not include any copyright material and were not having this hub to serve for illegal purposes. No illegal downloads at all. I have e-mailed the contact e-mail of this website and have not received a reply in a while. Maybe any of you guys can help me? Is it free? I'm sure there will be donations because of this hub. There's so many people involved and were all wondering if this could possibly happen. Is there any limits? Is there any restrictions? Please let me know. PLEASE REPLY! thanks...

If after reading these you have more specific questions, there's plenty of helpful people in this forum who will probably be glad to answer them. But in the meantime, since your question is so general, it's a bit hard to give you precise answers. These 2 threads essentially cover the basics of getting your hub up and running =)

Hey, thanks so much for all the information and stuff. I totally appreciate it. Anyway, the sites were helpful but i still need one thing. How do i have or start my own address or website thing that people would type at hub address to connect. Do i have to pay for anything or are there any free sites to have a server thing or whatever? i totally don't know and sorry if i'm not making sense. Do you have a hub or do you have AOL instant messinger? if you do, please reply to this, it might make it easier for me, but again, i don't want to be in your way so always be honest with me when i'm bothering you or anything. I really wanna get this hub started and i've been posting it on forums and no one really believes me about this hub thing that i'm trying to do so i need some support here. I want to surprise them about this....

For some reason i downloaded the Direct Connect Hub thing from 'Neo-modus' and i installed and everyting but when i open the program, it says something like "run time error 339... Component 'DCSyStray.ocx' or one of it dependencies not correctly rregistered: a file is missing or invalid"

That's a DNS service. You'll find some for free (http://www.no-ip.com/ for example).

That's a typical problem from installing the hub/server software, without first installing the client software, as neo-modus recommends on their download page =)

Hey, thanks for the site. I totally appreciate everything you've done for me and i hope i'm not annoying you or anything. The reason i asked if you had any other way of communicating is because i might have some questions and stuff, so if you have some sort of instant messeging service, it would be easier for me to communicate with you. So, i go to the website, and i read everything, and everything seems fine. I signed up and i downloaded their software that is kinda useless right now. i recieved my password through e-mail and i am now logged in. i look at their offers and discover that i couldn't find any that were free. I'm also not sure what i'm doing right now. Do you know what i am doing wrong? do you have a specific link? What IP server thing you use for your hub?

For a hub, i need a client server thing and someone to be online 24/7. Is it all i need is an address for people to connect to? and that's it? Cause i think that's all that i'm worrying about right now...or is there other stuff i need to know?

I'm not sure either, but the page describing the free services is on http://www.no-ip.com/services/page/free/dynamicdns

After you loged in on their website, you will end up in the members area. From there, the signup/setup for the free service is on the right side of the webpage, all the way at the top (the first service listed in the "services" column).
