Can You help me?: Play AVI on my DVD-player

I want to see my downloaded movies on my TV:
How shall I do to play AVI-files on my DVD-player. I have no DVD-burner (I don´t know if it is the proper name of the equipment?). I need an explicit guide. Is it posible to do thus using a CD-burner?

I think there is a player to buy now that can handle avi. If you don't have that you can convert avi to DVD/SVCD but it takes quite some learning to do it. SVCD you can burn on your CD-burner. But then your DVD for the TV has to be able to play SVCD, which is not so unusual if it's not to old.

i am going thru the same thing u have to convert to mpeg or svcd. mpeg u can burn on regular cd disk svcd are bigger and won't fit on cdr or cdr/rw disck
and your player has to be able to play vcds

Well, SVCD won't normally fit on ONE cdr anyway ....

I've found http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ to be a great help. It tells you what kind of (S)VCDs your DVD player supports, as well as the type of CD you use, among a bunch of other things.

This may not be exactly what you want, but if you have TV out on your video card, you can have a movie player such as BSplayer play movies directly on your TV. Then there's no need for a separate player or conversion to VCD/SVCD. That method works for video only. You can use a good sound card to then output the sound to your TV or to good speakers.

It's what I do and much less hassle, except for the fact that my AV cable barely reaches my TV.
