some friends and I are looking to create a plugin.. or a port or something of the dc++ program so that a "bot" type program would crawl through the network and download all files of a certain type that the user specifies.. say like *.mp3 for instance.
then compare the remote user's list to the client list that the program originates from and downloads those files.
the first question brought up.. what language.. i'm assuming c++ but it helps to know for sure.. and what do you guys suggest the programing environment the program should be written in?
i've already been told what the DC++ team thinks about this on a full release scale is.. and how it would get expensive for bandwidth.. but we're all on 100mbit network.. so it doens't bother us.
so.. what is it?
thanks!

Assuming you're going to comply with the GPL, mod DC++.
Client detection mods (and filelist checkers like DC++k) already loop and check newly connected users. You can use that and perhaps Twink's mod to ADLSearch to queue whatever you want.
You're going to use many, many hundreds of assloads of space, and get almost that many duplicates. I sure hope you have time on your hands to sort through the files. Amassing files just to have the biggest wang is...
