Good question.. I would like to offer you some other good questions.

Why do you have to PAY to buy things?
Why do you have to WORK to get money?

The answer being, of course you don't HAVE to, but if you want to get anywhere in the world, this is the recommended course to take.

Think about it for a moment. If nobody shared, there would be no files for anyone to download. What would be the point then? But if everyone shares a little part, there will be millions and millions of files to download. Isn't that a better solution than no files at all?
